About the Car:

Background:
  • Car was purchased new in 1986 by my parents, autocrossed and hillclimbed for years. When not in autocross use, it was my mother's daily driver up until 1995. I purchased it from my parents and have kept it up... I personally put almost 50k miles on it after the original 86k. Expensive work and lack of interest have finally set in, and I'd like to pass it on to a new owner who will hopefully keep it up. I don't have the money to make this car into what I want it to be.

Mileage: 137,622

The good:

Head (rebuilt 6k miles ago):
  • Rebuilt swirl head, professionally ported, valve job.
  • MP backcut valves
  • MP high RPM lifters
  • MP valve springs
  • FM475 cam

Block:
  • Bored .020 over with new pistons, rings, bearings, etc. Clevite 77s, crank ground.(6k ago)
  • All parts are OEM 1986 Turbo I style (LW rods, etc.)

Other:
  • Rebuilt turbocharger from TU at engine rebuild... new oil lines installed, makes great boost.
  • Starter has approx 6k on it
  • Water pump has <1k on it
  • Alternator has been converted to the superior Nippondenso that is less likely to fail.
  • Clutch replaced with Turbo II about 6k ago, resurfaced flywheel.
  • Momo Anatomic shift knob
  • real GLHS steering wheel w/ leather cover
  • Kenwood tape deck
  • Poly front swaybar bushings
  • Heater core replaced approx. 25k ago.
  • side skirts replaced/painted approx 30k ago.
  • Rear hatch replaced w/ stronger one, reinforced about 3k ago, fresh paint on hatch.
  • Dash replaced with nicer one about 15k ago, fixed a few rattles.
  • Replaced rear door panels with nicer ones about 1k ago.
  • (Lots of time has been spent trying to keep the interior nice over the years, including shampoo!)
  • Lotec dual pillar pod painted grey, autometer 20PSI boost and narrow band A/F installed and connected.
  • Dismantled doors and replaced worn window tracks about 3k ago, greased latch mechanism.
  • New cam seals within the last 500 miles.
  • Very nice looking OEM valve cover installed within the last 50 miles.
  • MSD coil - approx 2k old.
  • Front Wheel bearings replaced within 20-40k ago.
  • New pads (generic cheapies), rotors about 3k ago, bled entire brake system.
  • Windshield about 10k old.
  • Steering rack abt. 35k since rebuilt installed (correct 14:1)
  • PS Pump replaced about 6k ago.
  • Walbro 255lph pump (2k? ago)... has modern style TBI-pump refit.
  • Radiator - 6k old
  • Battery - 3k old.

The bad:

  • A525 (HD Gearset, 3.56) Transaxle has about 40k since factory new, but 2nd gear syncro only works with careful shifting and clutch fully depressed, shifts nice otherwise... has been this way for the last 28k.
  • Car has been de-Koni'd for another project, fitted with OEM shocks/struts/springs... dampers are obviously worn.
  • Vacuum lines are worn... various patches/refits in place.
  • Front tires are pretty much toast, rears look pretty good (yes, I know I should have rotated them).
  • Something scraped the rear defroster glass, and only the bottom line survived.
  • Suspension could probably use new bushings in most locations.
  • Brake pedal feel is decent, but stopping power isn't what it should be... needs looking into (could be the cheap pads)
  • The chassis is consistent with a 132k mile Omni that has been autocrossed and has been in a few fender-benders through the years. It could stand a little reinforcement, as it is definitely not as solid as a fresh L-body.
  • Engine stutter at high RPM (5000+), haven’t looked into it. Runs GREAT at lower RPMs.

The ugly:

  • Headliner is sagging badly (On an Omni? NO WAY!)
  • Paint is fading on many panels... no paint on car is original, so some look okay. Hood has some clearcoat peel.
  • bodywork underneath front airdam is pretty beat, airdam hides it pretty well.
  • Driver seat (non-original, same style) has rips in material, other seats nice.
  • Some windows are tinted... the ones that have been replaced are not... tint is REALLY old.

More:

  • The car is stored in Newark, CA, but has an Oregon title.

  • Purchase of the car gets you:
    • Car
    • Title, signed
    • Any spare parts that I might have to send (optional, probably not many)

  • This car is not currently licensed for operation, nor is it insured, so it would be highly recommended to tow it home. Can you drive it home? Probably, but I'm not going to promise that an old Omni will make it across the country!

  • As an Oregon-titled car in a non-smog county, I will not provide any smog services or titling fees. Will it pass smog? I have no idea... all emissions equipment is in place, so it might. I will not pay for ANY repairs needed to pass smog if it does not.

  • The above agreements will be on the bill of sale, to be signed by the purchaser and seller.
